This Privacy Policy describes the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information by Select Technologies, LLC ("Company," "we," "us" or "our") in connection with the Betanomics application, websites, membership and signup services (collectively, the "App Services"), communications with our team, and our administration of the optional Betanomics community hosted on Discord (the "Community"). "Personal information" means information that identifies, relates to, or can reasonably be linked to an individual, as further defined by applicable law.
This Policy addresses information handled by the Company. Third-party platforms also process information under their own privacy policies, as described below. Neither acknowledgment of this Policy nor acceptance of our Terms constitutes a waiver of statutory privacy rights or substitutes for consent where separately required.
1. Who We Are
Betanomics is operated by Select Technologies, LLC. Contact us about privacy at support@betanomics.io or by mail at Select Technologies, LLC, 228 Park Ave S, New York, NY 10003.
2. Information We Handle
Account and profile information
We receive your account identifier, sign-in provider, email address, and available profile information from Apple or Google when you sign in. Apple may provide a private-relay email address instead of your personal email. Our account records include your display name, full name, profile image reference when available, account role, and membership and account status. Members provide a date of birth during profile completion for our 18-and-older eligibility check; employee profile completion does not require a birthday. We currently store the submitted birth date with the profile.
Membership and payment information
Stripe processes membership payments. We handle membership selections, billing periods and status, and customer, subscription, checkout and transaction identifiers needed to operate access and billing. Payment card details are entered with Stripe; our systems do not store full payment card numbers.
Preferences and app activity
We store the interests you choose, notification preferences, notification and read-status records, and report-opening records and timestamps used to operate the app and enforce content access. These records can be linked to your account.
Device and security information
We handle a persistent app-generated device identifier, device/session information, platform and app version, notification delivery tokens, request and authentication records, IP addresses, user-agent information, and operational and security logs. This supports sign-in, account security, notifications, troubleshooting and reliable delivery. A device identifier or notification token is technical information, but it can still be associated with your account.
Information you choose to provide
If you request a signup notification through the waitlist or maintenance page, we store your account identifier, email address and request record. If you contact support, we receive your message and the information you include. Staff and administrator accounts can submit blog text, cover images and author information for publication; ordinary members do not upload blog content through that staff feature.
3. Optional Discord Community and Account Connection
A Discord account is not required to read research, picks or blogs in the App Services. Eligible app users may connect through the app; individuals may also join the Community by independent invitation, including without a paid app membership. An invitation to Discord does not create a paid app membership. Discord is a separate platform with its own account and privacy practices.
If you choose the app-assisted connection, Discord requests your authorization before we link the accounts. The account-linking information described below applies to that connection; participation through an independent invitation does not by itself create a linked Betanomics app account.
We receive and store your Discord user ID and username, the link to your Betanomics account, and connection and synchronization records. We process authorization information to complete the connection and use a bot to join the community and manage eligible membership roles and access. We check account and membership eligibility when managing access. The connection sends Discord the information needed to identify your Discord account and carry out those join and role-management actions; it does not send your Betanomics birth date, payment card details or Stripe billing records. We do not receive your Discord password.
For Community participants, including those admitted independently, Discord profiles, messages, reactions and other information made available within the Community can be visible to Company moderators and other participants according to applicable permissions. The Company uses information available to it to administer the Community, provide support and address rule violations. Discord hosts that content and processes information under its own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Disconnecting Discord or deleting your Betanomics account does not delete your Discord account or automatically erase messages you have posted there. You may contact us concerning information under the Company's control and use Discord's controls for information handled by Discord.
You can use Disconnect Discord in Betanomics Account Settings to request unlinking and withdrawal of access managed through the app connection. Unlinking does not delete your Discord account or transfer server ownership; roles and access outside the app's managed membership remain subject to separate Community rules. Disconnecting does not cancel your Betanomics subscription or prevent use of the app's research features while your membership remains active.
4. How We Use Information
- Authenticate accounts, manage device sessions, and protect against unauthorized access and abuse.
- Operate subscriptions, account eligibility and access to published research, picks and blogs.
- Apply your interests and preferences, deliver notifications, and keep notification/read status in sync.
- Provide the optional Discord connection and manage eligible community access.
- Respond to support requests and send necessary account, billing, security and service notices.
- Send signup-availability notifications you request and promotional emails only when you separately opt in.
- Troubleshoot the service, maintain operational records, resolve disputes, and meet applicable legal obligations.
Creating an account, paying for membership or linking Discord does not by itself opt you into promotional emails. A request to be notified when signup opens is used for that request; it is not a general marketing subscription. Promotional messages provide a way to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing from promotions does not stop necessary account or billing notices.
5. Providers and Other Disclosures
We disclose information to the following providers for the functions described below. The information involved depends on the features you use.
- Firebase and Google Cloud: account and authentication information, app records, uploaded staff content, device and notification identifiers, and technical logs used to host, store, secure and operate the App Services. Firebase also delivers supported account-authentication emails. See Firebase privacy and security information and the applicable Google Cloud and Firebase data-processing terms.
- Apple and Google sign-in: account authorization and technical information needed to authenticate you. These providers operate their own accounts; we receive the identifiers and profile information described in Section 2, not your Apple or Google password. See Sign in with Apple and Privacy and Google's Privacy Policy.
- Notification delivery: Firebase Cloud Messaging and, on Apple devices, Apple Push Notification service process delivery identifiers, notification content and badge information. Our current push payload uses a general notification message; account-specific notification details are retrieved inside the authenticated app. See Apple's Privacy Policy and Firebase's information above.
- Stripe: account email, an internal account reference, selected membership and transaction information to provide checkout, recurring billing and subscription management. You provide payment details directly to Stripe. Stripe also handles certain information for its own payment-network, fraud-prevention and legal-compliance purposes. See Stripe's Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement.
- Discord: the optional connection and Community information described in Section 3. Discord operates its own platform under its Privacy Policy.
- Website resources and support communications: Google-hosted fonts and authentication libraries receive technical request information, such as an IP address and browser information, when your browser loads them. Our email service processes messages and attachments you send to support and our replies.
Protection of information disclosed to providers
We require third parties receiving personal information from our app to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection as described in this Policy and required by Apple's App Review Guidelines. We use applicable data-protection terms and documented safeguards to support that requirement and limit disclosures to the purposes described here. Providers processing personal information on our behalf are subject to applicable confidentiality and security obligations and may process it to provide their contracted services or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
Some providers also operate independent services, such as your Apple, Google or Discord account and Stripe's own payment-security functions. Their privacy notices explain that separate processing, available controls and retention practices. Those notices do not replace this Policy for information the Company handles or remove our responsibilities for disclosures we make. We do not control every aspect of those separate services or guarantee that any system is entirely free of security risks.
Authorized staff and service providers may access information needed for account administration, support, billing and security. Staff-authored blog content and author information are visible to eligible readers. Information shared in Discord is visible according to Discord and community settings.
We may also disclose information when legally required, to address fraud or protect rights and safety, in connection with a corporate transaction, or at your direction. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Browser Storage and Device Choices
Our website and authentication providers use essential browser storage, cookies or similar technology to support sign-in, security and account/checkout continuity. The current website does not use advertising pixels or session-replay tools.
You can control notifications in the app and in your device settings, update available interests and profile settings, and disconnect Discord. Restricting essential browser storage may interfere with sign-in. The app's content remains usable without enabling push notifications or connecting Discord, subject to an active membership.
7. Retention and Account Deletion
We retain personal information for the purposes described in this Policy, taking into account the duration of the account relationship, the nature of the information, operational and security needs, and applicable legal requirements. Ending a subscription does not itself delete the account. Transaction, security, audit and support records may be retained where reasonably necessary for billing, dispute handling, fraud prevention or legal obligations; the applicable period depends on the record and its purpose.
You can request deletion through Delete account in the app's Account Settings or at the bottom of Complete Profile before finishing your profile. A deletion option is also available after sign-in when membership is inactive. We may require you to sign in again to verify the request. For an existing membership account, a successful deletion request ends app access, cancels an active subscription and places the account in a 30-day pending-deletion period. Scheduled cleanup then removes the login and associated personal data from active systems, subject to necessary retained records and completion of external-service cleanup. A sign-in identity without a corresponding membership account may be removed immediately. Backups and necessary billing, legal and security records can remain subject to the separate retention purposes described here. Backups and provider records may remain subject to their applicable retention and legal requirements. Discord content is handled as described above. Information retained for billing, legal or security purposes is not repurposed as a marketing list.
8. Privacy Requests
Subject to applicable law and its exceptions, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a portable copy of your information, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing lawfully undertaken before withdrawal. Contact support@betanomics.io to make a privacy request. We may reasonably verify your identity and, where applicable, an agent's authority before acting. These support options supplement the account-deletion control in the app and do not replace rights or remedies provided by law.
Applicable state privacy laws, including California law where it applies, may provide additional rights. Where European or UK privacy law applies, you may also have a right to complain to your supervisory authority. We process information on the applicable basis of providing the service, legitimate operational and security interests, legal obligations, or consent where required.
9. Processing Locations and Security
We operate from the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our providers operate. We use technical and organizational safeguards to protect information, but no system can guarantee absolute security.
10. Age Eligibility
Betanomics is intended for adults 18 and older. A date entered incorrectly during the age check can be corrected; an unsuccessful age check does not automatically suspend the account. Access remains blocked until eligibility and required profile information are resolved. Contact us if you believe someone under 18 has provided personal information so we can review and address it.
11. Policy Updates
We will post changes on this page and update the date above. We will provide additional notice or request consent when required for a material change.
